Research findings: In October 2015, 30 physician members of the International Perthes Study Group (IPSG) across 8 countries convened to design an international and prospective clinical study protocol focused on the treatment of late stages of the disease. At the 2-day symposium, specialists debated the current options and challenges of treating this rare patient population, including the variance of treatment methods internationally, in order to establish a consensus for implementing an effective study. As a result, we designed a multicenter, international, prospective clinical study protocol (including enrollment criteria and outlining clinical and radiographic data points) that was finalized in the spring of 2016. We aim to initiate the study in late 2017.
