Starting out Strong: 5 Tips for the New Orthopaedic Fellow
- Write down EVERYTHING you learn – and don’t rely on your smartphone to do it
- Create a thorough template for your surgical notes and build on them throughout the year
- Commit to creating an independent written preoperative plan for each case
- Cultivate a relationship with a mentor and use them to learn the nuances of the craft that aren’t in a textbook
- Seek out job opportunities from well-respected sources and by engaging in regular dialogue with your mentors
- Read regularly and commit to a schedule
- Meet with your program director(s) regularly, both formally and informally
