POSNA Registry Grant

Amount: Up to $50,000 per year for 3 years
Grants/Year: 1 grant awarded the first and second year of each 3-year cycle
Duration: 3 years (Proposal budgets should be detailed with this in mind)
Focus: The purpose of this grant is to provide funding for high-quality clinical registries (multi-center preferred) for pediatric orthopaedic conditions.
Description:

This grant is intended to fund registry projects in pediatric orthopaedics which can have a profound effect on care and represents POSNA’s substantial commitment to registries. There should be an emphasis on collaborative work and potential for expanded research and funding.

Scoring Criteria: The grant application will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • significance, impact, and relevance to the POSNA mission
  • originality/innovation
  • scientific quality of the proposed study
  • investigator(s) track record
  • feasibility
  • potential for future funding
POSNA encourages transparency and equal access to registry data by all participating institutions. It is suggested that Data Use Agreements do not restrict participating institutions from access to de-identified data or from publishing on their individual institutional data. It is encouraged that DUAs reflect this philosophy.
Additional Information: Acceptable funding elements include teleconferencing/meetings (with the collaborating team of investigators to develop the research protocol, study design, outcome measures, recruitment, analysis, etc.), methodologic/statistical support or consultation, costs for development of registry database, maintenance of registry, validation of registry.

Funds are not intended for institutional indirect costs, purchase of personal computers or equipment, and stipends or fees for students or post-doctoral fellow.

Applicants may apply for both the POSNA Registry Grant and one of the named awards (Angela S.M. Kuo Memorial Award, Arthur H. Huene Memorial Award, or St. Giles Young Investigator Award) but must complete the grant application, check the box for the award they qualify for, and submit any other items required for that specific award.
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Principal Investigator or Co-PI must be a Candidate member or an Active member of POSNA in good standing.
  • Non-orthopaedic surgeon MDs, PhDs, or DVMs are eligible to apply if affiliated with an orthopaedic department and working with an orthopaedic surgeon/POSNA member who is the Co-PI.
  • Current grant or award recipients, with the exception of current microgrant recipients, cannot apply for a future grant as a PI, as one of multiple investigators, or as a co-investigator until the current award/grant research is completed and all final reports and expense reports have been submitted and accepted. An exception can be made if a co-investigator is due less than $5,000 for the remaining timeline of the grant, inclusive of any payment made during the current calendar year.
