In Memoriam

Joseph C. Flynn, MD
- 2010

Joe Flynn died on June 10, 2010 in Orlando at the age of 86. Dr. Flynn was born in New Jersey and served in the army in World War II, landing in Normandy and marching across Europe until wars' end.  He attended Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia and returned there for residency, spending his final year at the Pennsylvania State Hospital for Crippled Children. He set up a practice as the first Pediatric Orthopaedist in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Flynn was an active supporter of Florida Easter Seals, medical director of the Florida Elks Hospital and served on numerous Catholic Charities.

We especially remember Dr. Flynn as popularizing the treatment of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning. Prior to this, popular treatment included casting in extreme flexion and olecranon traction. This is from his seminal JBJS article.

Joe is survived by his 5 children and 15 grandchildren.
