POSNA/OREF Research Grant

Amount: Up to $30,000 total
Grants/Year: This grant will be awarded to one of the four chosen under the POSNA Research Grant.
Duration: 1-2 years (Proposal budgets should be detailed with this in mind)
Focus: Basic science and clinical research including spine related topics.
Description:

A broad range of research areas will be considered for the POSNA/OREF Research Grant, including patient based studies, clinical and basic science research, clinical studies and multi-center or society wide projects, research on spine related topics. Pilot projects, research with pre-existing funding that may need supplemental support, as well as complete research proposals will be considered for funding. Clinical relevance must be clearly noted in the abstract and specific aims, and be obvious from the title and study design.

Scoring Criteria: The grant application will be evaluated based on the following criteria: significance, impact, relevance to POSNA mission, originality/innovation, scientific quality of the proposed study, investigator(s) track record, feasibility, and potential for future funding. Priority will be given to proposals with likelihood for obtaining additional external funding. Applicants may apply for both the POSNA/OREF Grant and one of the POSNA Awards (Angela S.M. Kuo Memorial, Arthur H. Huene Memorial or St. Giles Young Investigator) but must complete the grant application, check the box for the award they qualify for, and submit any other items required for that specific award.
Additional Information: The grant recipient (PI) is required to attend an ORS/OREF/AAOS Research Funding Workshop to learn strategies for success in competing for NIH or other large-scale funding. The grant budget must include travel costs to attend one workshop in the spring (usually in May) during the period of the grant. The registration/housing fee of approximately $500 for this workshop should also be included in the budget. The PI is required to prepare a grant proposal that will be critiqued during the workshop.
Eligibility Criteria: The PI or the Co-PI must be a member of POSNA.
