Brian Hotchkiss, MD

Brian L. Hotchkiss, 75, former chief of staff at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, died on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013.
Dr. Hotchkiss graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1963 and practiced medicine in Grand Rapids for more than 40 years.
He was the first pediatric orthopedic surgeon in Grand Rapids, and was chief of staff at Blodgett during the merger with Butterworth Hospital and creation of the Spectrum Health system.
He was a longtime active member of Mayflower Congregational Church. Brian enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, dedicated many hours to Mary Free Bed Hospital and participated in numerous medical mission trips.
Brian enjoyed sports and was an avid windsurfer, skier, tennis player and rower. He also coached Crew for Forest Hills Central. He was an active baker and bridge player. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gerry Hotchkiss; children, Robert Hotchkiss, Cheryl Fasse, Kevin Hotchkiss; grandchildren, Parker, Max, Katie, Burns, Julia, Grayam, Aria and Jackson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gail.
