In Memoriam

Morey S. Moreland, MD
1939 - 2011

Morey Moreland died in October of 2011 from complications of leukemia.
 
Dr. Moreland graduated from the University of Wyoming and received his MD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1965. Following his orthopaedic residency at the University of Vermont he was a Lord Nuffield Scholar in Orthopaedics at Oxford University.  He was also a Visiting Fellow at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston. From 1986 to 1989 Dr. Moreland served as professor at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
 
In 1989 Dr. Moreland moved to Pitt and served as Chief of Pediatric Orthoapaedics and held the William F. and Jean Donaldson chair of Pediatric Orthopaedics. He also served as Departmental Vice Chair and Presdent of the Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh Medical Staff.
 
He was known as an expert in spinal deformity as well as hip dysplasia.  He was a member of the AOA & SRS, as well as POSNA, and was President of the International Research Society for Spinal Deformity. 
 
Dr. Moreland was a long-time member of CURE International, a nonprofit organization caring for the needs of children in ten countries around the world.   Dr. Moreland and his wife traveled to the CURE hospital In San Pedro Sula, Honduras once or twice a year, volunteering their time and skills .

Dr. Moreland is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and daughter, Michelle.
