Federico Fernandez-Palazzi, MD
1941 - 2010

Dr. Federico Fernández Palazzi died on August 16, 2010. Born in Caracas on December 13, 1941 of a very active and multifaceted personality, he was a very well-known and educated man. He distinguished himself by his teaching commitment, easygoing good humor and unconditional love towards his friends and family.
 
He graduated as Surgeon at the Universidad Central de Madrid, Spain in 1965 and revalidated his degree in Caracas, Venezuela on 1970. He held a Post Graduate Degree in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Rheumatism Foundation Hospital, Heinola, Finland; at the Norrbaka Institute of the Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, at the Bridge of Earn Hospital, at the Saint Andrews University, Scotland and the Sagrado Corazón de la Universidad de Barcelona Hospital, Spain.
 
Renowned around the world for his expertise in the orthopaedic approach of the hemophiliac patient, rheumatic diseases and neuromuscular pathology, he authored a wide number of articles and papers. He was also consultant and editor of several articles in publications such as the International Orthopaedics – SICOT; European Children Orthopaedics, Revista Española de Cirugía Osteoarticular, Revista Española de Ortopedia y Traumatología, Revista de la Federación Médica Venezolana. 
 
He was a founding member of SLAOTI – Sociedad Latinoamericana de Ortopedia y Traumatología Infantil; GLANeO – Grupo Latinoamericano de Neuroortopedia; outstanding member of the Sociedad Venezolana de Ortopedia y Traumatología and President of the SICOT – International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology.
 
Freedom was one of his most noteworthy features as well as his integrity to face his health conditions. He captured the essence of all his experiences in life and wrote about them in all his books. His career is a very valuable inheritance. Let his memory set an example for us all. He is survived by his wife María Inés.
