Jung Y. Mah, MD
1949 - 2024

Dr. Jung Y. Mah, 74, of North York, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Mah passed away on March 5, 2024. He had been a POSNA member for more than 30 years and participated on the Pediatric Orthopaedic Global Outreach (POGO) Committee.
 
Dr. Mah was born on May 10, 1949, to Choi King and John Cheong Mah in Taishan, Guangdong Province, China. He immigrated to Canada in 1958. 

After graduating from Centre Hastings Secondary School in Madoc, ON, Dr. Mah went on to study at Queen’s University, graduating with his medical doctorate in 1975.
 
He did his family medicine residency in Vancouver, BC, and practiced in Roslin, ON, for several years before returning to school to complete an orthopaedic surgery residency at McMaster University, followed by fellowships at the University of Toronto/SickKids and Harvard Medical School/Boston Children’s.  
 
He returned to McMaster as a staff physician, rising to the level of professor of surgery before retiring 3 years ago. During his career, Dr. Mah was also program director for the orthopaedic surgery residency program, examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, and team doctor for the Canadian National Gymnastics Team. He dedicated his life to taking care of the sick and training the next generation of physicians.

Dr. Mah is survived by his wife, Lilian Leong, three children, Baun, Doug (Jennifer), and Kandice, two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
