Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH) welcomes nominations and applications for its next Chair of Orthopedics. CMH is one of the largest freestanding children’s hospitals in the United States and one of only 14 children’s hospitals ranked in all ten of U.S. News and World Report’s specialty services, including orthopedics. CMH is dedicated to holistic care, translational research, breakthrough innovation, and educating the next generation of caregivers.
The chair will lead a large and cohesive Orthopedics Department amid a period of leadership renewal at CMH. The department includes the sections of hand surgery, spine surgery, and sports medicine. The department also provides general orthopedics, fracture care, trauma services, and a hip preservation program. The chair will collaborate with faculty to provide transparent leadership for the hospital and department. They will develop strategies for the growth and expansion of the department and further alignment between the department and hospital to advance all their missions. CMH has the powerful forward momentum to evolve and the chair will help lead the transformation of the hospital towards a position of national prominence.
The successful candidate will bring strong clinical, academic, and research experience to the position. They will embody the mission of CMH and a deep commitment to children’s health. A record supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion will be required and the chair will make faculty development a cornerstone of their strategy for the department. The chair will lead with consensus, working with the faculty and staff to streamline processes throughout the hospital and building bridges to better serve the patients, faculty, and staff of CMH.
