In Memoriam

Allen S. Edmonson, MD
1927 - 2011

Allen Edmonson was born in Martin, TN in 1927.  He served in the US Army in 1946, during the Japanese occupation.  He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1950 and received his MD from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1953.  He completed a Residency in General Surgery and Pathology at Kennedy Veteran’s Hospital. He completed a Residency in Orthopedics at Campbell Clinic, and a Fellowship at Campbell Clinic from 1956-1959.  He was a member of the Campbell Clinic staff from 1959-2001, specializing in the treatment of scoliosis and spine in children and adults.  He was president of several organizations, including Tennessee Medical Association, Mid-America Orthopedic Associates.  He was a founding member and President of SRS.  He was the author of numerous publications, as well as serving as editor of Campbell’s Operative Orthopedics in 1975.  He leaves behind his wife, Joanne; 3 sons, and 3 grandchildren.  He passed away in May of 2011 at age 83.
