In Memoriam

Sharon Goldberg, MD
- 2009

Sharon Goldberg, POSNA executive director from 1998 to 2007, died in November of 2009 at the age of 67.

Sharon Rosenthal was born in Chicago and graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago with a degree in education. She married Bob Goldberg in 1963 and taught elementary school in the Chicago Public School system. She then worked as a full-time homemaker, raising her two children. I'm not saying that working with small children helped to prepare her for working with POSNA elected leadership, but it sure did not hurt.

Sharon then began her career in health-related fields. Prior to her work for POSNA, she held the executive position at the American Academy of Dermatology.

As executive director of POSNA, Sharon oversaw a period of great expansion of the organization, with increasing international ties and an ever-larger membership roster and annual meeting attendance.  Many past presidents have remarked on her sage counsel and recall how she acted as mentor to the elected leadership.

In the summer of 2007 Sharon was involved in a motor vehicle accident from which she struggled to recover and it eventually forced her retirement. BefoIn the summer of 2009, Sharon was recognized by the POSNA Board and awarded an honorary membership in our Society.

Sharon is survived by her husband Bob, her son Richard, her daughter Jamee, and four grandchildren.
